The Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact (Pact) and the Trinational Alliance for the Atlantic Forest Restoration in the Upper Parana (Trinational Alliance) in collaboration with organisations within 3 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay), propose the restoration of the Atlantic Forest (AF) as one of the most concrete examples of ecosystem restoration. The restoration of AF is one of the first global examples of large-scale restoration, starting around 140 years ago and continuing today. The Atlantic Forest is renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, encompassing three countries: Argentina (2% of ecosystem coverage), Brazil (92%), and Paraguay (6%).

A Flagship title recognizes not only AF restoration legacy but also brings to light our current initiatives, strengthening our coalitions and our eight strategies (1) Planning and priority setting, (2) science and knowledge, (3) capacity building; (4) implementation; (5) policy and legislation; (6) funding and resources mobilization; (7) monitoring and adaptive management and (8) communication and engagement. These strategies are aligned with the Decade ́s Action Plan for Latin America. Furthermore, we believe that many worldwide restoration initiatives could benefit from the lessons learned in the Atlantic Forest, an knowledge exchange that is crucial to move forward to achieve success in our global agenda and promote forest conservation.
