Geospatial and statistical data at global, regional and national level on agricultural land use, soil properties and terrain dataset. This section includes databases that can facilitate land evaluation and land use planning by providing information that may serve as inputs for the process. Land cover and use data is crucial for identifying past and current trends in agriculture and inform planning and policies towards the design and implementation of more sustainable agricultural systems. Soil and terrain data are key datasets for analysing land conditions and agricultural constraints.

  • Global Soil Organic Carbon Map (GSOC): GSOCmap is the first global soil organic carbon map ever produced through a consultative and participatory process among countries.

  • Harmonized World Soil Database (HWSD): The HWSD is a 30 arc-second raster database with over 15,000 different soil mapping units that combines existing regional and national updates of soil information worldwide (SOTER, ESD, Soil Map of China, WISE) with the information contained within the 1:5 000 000 scale FAO-UNESCO Soil Map of the World (FAO, 1971-1981).

  • International Soil Reference and Information Centre (ISRIC): ISRIC's SoilGrids is a system for automated soil mapping based on global soil profile and environmental covariate data at 250 m spatial resolution.

  • Land Cover: National, regional and global land cover maps prepared by different projects using different standards including using ISO standard (ISO 19144-2:2012) that is developed with the final aim of providing a common reference structure for the comparison and integration of data for any generic land cover classification system, thus ensuring the ability to exchange land cover data.
