Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Biomass Fires

This global dataset shows the geospatial data underlying FAOSTAT estimates of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from biomass fires. Variables in the dataset include the burned area (spatial distribution), the biomass burned (tonne), and the CH4, and N2O emissions (tonne) are shown, Estimates are computed from the MODIS burned area, MODIS land cover type, and IPCC consumption values and emission factors, at a resolution of 500 meters. The data are displayed per vegetation type, in line with the IPCC vegetation categories which were used for obtaining their consumption values and emission factors (IPCC, 2006). Data are updated annually from 2001 onwards. Last available year is 2021.
