Domestic Market Prices - FPMA

FPMA (Food Price Monitoring and Analysis) Domestic Market Prices

Image

This dataset is a collection of average monthly retail and wholesale prices covering basic food commodities for about 90 countries. The data is maintained by FAO GIEWS (Global Information and Early Warning System on Food and Agriculture) and is updated on a monthly basis with latest available data predominantly taken from primary sources in countries or in some cases through secondary sources.

Caution should be used when assessing price data, which can present misleading messages if trends are not analyzed against prevailing economic conditions. For example, in the case of a depreciating currency, rising prices in local currency terms could appear to be declining in US dollar terms.

For a more specialized tool that can perform extensive analyses to account for factors such as depreciation, inflation and seasonality, users are encouraged to utilize the FPMA Tool. The FPMA Tool was developed by FAO GIEWS specifically for the analysis and dissemination of domestic food price data and also includes benchmark international prices for many food commodities.
